Western Sierra Ski Tour TR

Rare Westside TR

I picked up a pair of older snowmobiles this last year which opens up all new terrain on the hard-to-access western slopes of the Sierra. Second time up this season, myself and a couple friends hit up Madera Peak in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. 4 hours skinning up from the road put us on the ridge a 1/4 mile from the summit. There wasn't enough coverage to make heading the final stretch to the top worth it. An amazing day in the Sierra. It's going to be a great winter.

Our route

Doug skinning up. Great slopes in the background to be skied on another day.

Skiing out across Upper Jackass Lake.

Always looking for partners on the west side. Post up if you want a free snowmobile ski tour. I live just outside of Oakhurst, south of Yosemite National Park. There is endless terrain to be explored here, most of which has probably rarely been skied do to snowmobile-only access (otherwise you are looking at a 20 mile skin up 4000' to get to the base of anything).

thanks for ruining my morning . . .

super nice. Got any pics of the Balls to share? I've always wanted to see them in the winter. So jealous of your snowmobiles. Who knows, if I'm up at Bass Lake sometime this winter, I may be giving you a call to beg for a ride! Is that Graham of Summit?

Oh, and BTW, you've got the Golden Toad mislabeled. It's the bump next to "Balls" on your image. Nitpicking.

I didn't get any shots of the Balls, but next time I am up there, I will get some for you. Thanks for pointing out the mislabeled Toad, that should have been Nightwatch. The pics do show Graham of Summit Adventure. We are good friends and will be getting out skiing pretty regularly this season. Tomorrow we're hitting up a quick afternoon at Iron Mountain, just north of Fresno Dome. Definitely let me know anytime you are in the area.
