According to the White Mtn. Ranger station the road to Rock Creek road is only open to the lake.

They are ALWAYS the last ones to know that the road is clear, is plowed or needs to be plowed.

Been through this BS with the WMRS every season for the past ten years. The Mono County Public Works Dept are the ones that plow the road.

I tell ya what. I will drive up the road as right now and report back in an a half an hour.

I've never found NFS/NPS rangers to be reliable for ANYTHING, except for road closures. I guess now even that has been called into question.

Rangers on Shasta and Rainier seem to be an exception.

OK...Here's the real deal I just saw it with my own eyes report!!!!

The road is plowed up to and just above the gate by the Corral/Stables. (Just spoke to my neighbor and he misunderstood me earlier. He did in fact plow/clean up the road from the Lake/Resort up to the gate this morning. He expects to be up there maybe next week or the week after if the temps cont to be as warm as they to actually plow all the way up to MF PL). There is about 2-3 feet of snow from that point up.

Ran into two dudes that just came back down from skiing when I stopped to peak. They were in and around the Lakes Basin, Abbot and Mills areas. Said the snow was fabulous.

I know for a fact that the K-Pass hasn't melted out yet.

There is still lots of the white stuff above 10K' throughout the Eastside for sure.

Gonna definitely be a long snow season.

Yeah we went back there last year at about the same time and started here. Road was mostly clear then but the gate was closed. So no big deal.
Yes should be a great time love the area (esp when there aren't skeeters). Will being going up the Hourglass and on to Dade. Looking forward to it...

In retrospect, the hardpack will actually cut down on the approach times.

Two years ago, I actually cut my approach time to the same locale ya'll are headed for, in order to solo the Petit Griffon, by almost an entire hour.

Have fun dude... the Hourglass will be in awesome shape early in the morning!!!!
