They were out at Dade Lake (11600') and Gem Lakes in Little Lakes Valley the last few days, though not as ferocious or in the same numbers as they might be in early July. We didn't bother bringing bug juice on this trip.

None that we could see in Tuolumne Meadows last weekend.

Skeeters were very pesky throughout most of our backpack this past week in SE Yosemite via Chaquito Pass, Ottoway Lakes, Post Peak Pass, Hernandez Pass. Only exception was late afternoon at Breeze Lake.

Picked up a a PCT thru hiker wanting to restock at kennedy. He had just come out of the Emigrant and confirmed that the skeeters were uncomfortable where he was the night before (he had done 19 miles that day from the South to the North) and that a head net was needed to set up tent and cook.

Does anyone have an update on skeeters? Are we in the clear for the season in most areas of the Sierra? Thanks.

They were still out in force along Sphinx Creek last weekend, in the early morning anyway.

We've had a couple of hard freezes the last few nights here in Tahoe. I was up at High Meadows on Monday in the evening as the sun was going down. As I ate a snack next to the creek, I didn't see a single mosquito. I'm not getting bit at the house either. (I live right across the street from a meadow, so they're usually swarming the whole summer.) It looks like the cold nights may have killed them.

I hiked over Bishop Pass this weekend. It was pretty cold and I didn't get a single bite.
