Big Meadow – Sequoia National Forest

Minor question: Wife and I explored around the Big Meadow campground (Unit 1) yesterday to find a 50’ boulder with several bolted anchors with rappel rings about 100 yards south across the creek. Pretty hard face/crack climbs for me, but we found a few 5.7 routes and played on those for a few hours. Great way to spend the evening.

Any locals know of this boulder and if there are others in the area? Just fun to stumble across these. Went over to Chimney Rock this morning – probably should have read up a little more about the Falcon nesting closure, oh well.

Off the general's highway. It was just a random rock south of the campground. Fun top roping etc. Nothing exciting.
I was pretty excited to check out Chimney rock and remember just vaguely reading about something about a closure. Well sure enough, got about ¼ from the end of the road to find a locked gate with a sign marking that it was “Closed to Climbing.” Bummed – but respected it.

We really had no backup plan after that, and where limited becuase we had our dog with us (had to stay out of the National Park) figured we check out Buck Rock but the guide book indicated 5.10 and up there. So I passed.
