Just a quickie- 2 nights, 3 days. Probably head down on the PCT to Walker Meadows, loop around Emigrant Pass/High Emigrant Lake, and then out possibly via Leavitt Lake Rd. I'll bring back a report!

Gate to Leavitt lake was still closed as of yesterday 7/24.

Any idea on PCT trail conditions going north from Sonora Pass? Snow left on White Mountain or Stanislaus Peak?

just got home. Had a nice trip- south from Sonora Pass down the PCT to the pass above Kennedy Lake, camped up there, then down the PCT further through Kennedy Canyon, then across to Chain of Lakes/Fremont Lake and down the West Fork of the Walker River to Leavitt Meadows. Leavitt Peak was a fun walk-up diversion from the PCT.

Snow patches, while still present, are for the most part very easily manageable. It's what you'd expect a month earlier (late June) for the past 7 years (as long as I've been in the Sierra). There was one snow crossing on the PCT that was vaguely exposed in places on the backside of the mountain above Leavitt Lake- but it was not very steep and steps were easily kicked. Certainly no need for axes or crampons.

North of Sonora Pass, at least the south-facing aspects we could see, appeared almost completely melted out.

Mosquitos ranged from negligible in the alpine areas south of Sonora Pass to tolerable but annoying at subalpine (9000') elevations to maddening at 7-8000'. Leavitt Meadows was a torturous walk out at dusk- we got eaten alive while hiking.
