I'm still wrapping my head around the idea of 46 miles. 18 in one day (with a pack) is my max. Would like to find a solid western sierra 25 mile round trip day hike. Ideas? Plus shoes - I have La Sportiva BoulderX shoes, they hold up pretty good until 10 miles for me.

That's pretty impressive!

I did the loop July 4th, thought I was going fast doing it in 3 days...

Its a spectacular hike!

A few solid dayhikes from the west in the 20-25 mile range which I have enjoyed (without excessive suffering) were Seven Gables from the Bear Creek Diversion Dam, Mount Clark from Happy Isle and Mount Izaak Walton from Edison Lake.

Some of you might be interested in my run of the Rae Lakes Loop in just under 7.5 hours last Sunday (9/26). Splits, trip report, and photos here.

That's quite a feat, Leor - nice going. I hear you set the course record for the Ohlone 50K run, too. I keep hoping you'll show up to the Sierra Challenge one of these years. Sean needs some competition. :-)

Why would you want to "fly" through it?? Slow down and take the time to enjoy it... or am I missing something here?
just my $.02

I am curious about your resupply of food and water? Perhaps 30 or 40 gels, a water bottle and dipping in the creeks??? Maybe just suffering the whole route?

Everybody enjoys the wilderness in different ways and even my objectives vary with each outing. Sometimes I enjoy covering a lot of terrain in a short amount of time which allows me to feel the "flow" of the traverse/route and actually enhances my personal experience.

I took 7 gels, 1 powerbar gel blast packet, 2 powerbars, and six 1.5x sevings of First Endurance EFS drink mix (150 calories each). In other words, about 2,200 calories. Only 1,600 was consumed (I need about 200 calories per/hour). I enjoyed the views, particularly in the Rae Lakes area, and stopped to take many photos and some video clips. I'm not interested in making these head-down sufferfests; even in the trail and ultra races I run, I chose aesthetic courses where I can be inspired by my surroundings.

Thanks Bob and congrats on your recent completion of the SPS list! I'm hoping to show up for at least a day of the Challenge one of these years as well!
