Just in time for a winter storm to damage another part of the road. :D

Anyone here ski (or board) Kratka or Waterman?
Are there any other abandoned resorts I didnt mention?

It's been over 30 years since I've skied there, but there used to be a ski area, a little west of Wrightwood called "Ski Sunrise". I don't know what ever became of it. The runs descended below the highway/parking area and the lifts, rope tows, pomas, or Tee-bars brought skiers back up to the top.

There was a third ski area in Wrightwood back then too. The name escapes my memory. Now it's part of Mountain High.

Although I haven't ever skied there, I heard there also used to be a rope tow and a short ski run in the San Bernardino Mountains near Green Valley Lake, between Running Srpings and Snow Valley.

Ski Sunrise was bought by Mountain High and turned into a tubing and snowplay park. But there's not much of a hill there anyway.

Went up to Baldy Notch on black friday.
Apparently on thanksgiving day a southern wind blew up the canyon north all day w gusts to 60mph. I talked w Nick (a guy who knows that place well) and he said it was horrible. The canyon was totally wind scowered and blasted. I hoped that maybe this was deposited on the N face but i will get to that...

we were able to skin along the spring ridge? run (furthest north) the entire way although it was very boney in several spots. It was not windy, 55 deg sunny. We got to the top of the lift, had lunch and I dropped down the north facing side leading down to stockton flats to get a look at the north facing snow coverage-wasnt good. 2-3in of frozen snow (patches of ice in spots) covered the bare ground w a 1-2 inch layer of cold granular snow compacted and wind hardened down, with a semi firm top layer.

Many people were up and around trying to hit the devils back bone route and the tricky headwall traverse under and around and over was had people stumped and nobody went past that we talked to.

Be careful out there

Ski Sunrise was on the north side of the road. It was located on Table Mountain. I used to ski there when Holiday Hill(aka Mountain High) was crowded.

Thanks Tiogap,

Holiday Hill was the name I was trying to remember. Holiday Hill and Mountain High were once two separate ski areas before Mountain Hign acquired the whole enchilada and connected the areas.

12/5 Skihut trail to Baldy summit. Clear up to the hut and patchy snow to the summit. It might change as we speak though :)

Search and Rescue is also out looking for a missing hiker that's overdue since last night. Not much of a description though. About 5'4", Korean lady.

Hey Bruno, I may have passed by you today. I hiked up Register Ridge and then down the normal Sierra Hut trail. I was surprised by how little snow was up there today (but as you say, it may be changing right now). I didn't hear anything about the Korean. Here’s some photos

Oh, you probably did! We were a group of 3 guys (and my wife a little behind); one of them being a tall guy (6'5") with a very small backpack. You would probably remember him if you saw him. I was all in black.

Oh yeah, search and rescue only just started looking for the woman when we past by them somewhere between 2 and 2:30pm on the fire road.

Hi Bruno, yeah I saw you guys heading up to the western ridge. I was the guy coming down and stepped aside and said “uphill has the right of way”. The tall guy said he wanted to rest and I said “you got the right to do that too” :) :)

Regarding the missing Korean woman. It’s seems strange that if she went missing on Sat, I didn’t see any SAR activity on Sunday. I drove thru Baldy village around~12:30 and didn’t see any search activities getting started at either the ranger station or fire station. Anyhow, glad to hear they got the SAR started and I’m hoping for the best. Here’s news link:

Thanks for sharing Taco. I don't know why but it never occured to me that there might be a frozen waterfall lurking in one of those gullies. My luck has always been finding deep snow, etc. Very enticing. I may have to get up there.

Ha, I totally remember that! I was just behind him :). He's on here too (SJ).

I can't remember exactly but I think the SAR guy said it was only called in shortly before we got there.

Hey Graham,

Nice to meet you briefly yesterday as well. I was the good looking one of the group (not Bruno or the tall guy with the tiny pack) :D
