My name is Tim Gamber, and I am very intereseted in the Yosemite Plane Crash of December 1976. I also interested in the subsequent recovery operation. I have been following a thread that was intiated by Mr. Schloss in '05. I have followed the interest in this incident from members on this site. I can see how the story has the capacity to snowball in the acconts, but I feel like the basic facts are there for the deciphering. I believe that certain hypothesis can be formed and tested against the relevant factual evidence. I am convinced that it is impossible to come up with a complete factual scenario surrounding the incident. By now, over 30 plus years since the incident some facts likely are gone with the individuals who held them. Remember the people involved are likely 50 to early 60's now. I can tell by going thru the threads that some people appear to have first hand knowledge, while others have speculative knowledge. Both can be helpful in the testing of hypothesis.

I am going to attempt to write a book about this subject. Already in one week I have compiled hundreds of pages of notes, found photos, and come up with certain hypothesis that I plan on testing.

What I have to offer: I am an attorney in Las Vegas, so I can answer questions about the statute of limitations, as well as form a privileged relationship with anyone who would like to provide information. I do not necessarily believe that real names are necessary to tell the story. I think enough factual determinations can be drawn with a minor amount of corroborative evidence.

I am not looking to make a windfall on this book, and to be quite honest, do not know that once it is compiled will be publishable. But, I am willing to split any proceeds with an individual or individuals who substantially contribute to the subject matter of this project. I will set aside a certain percentage of any royalties to be put into a fund for those who help provide information. I am open to any ideas relating to profit sharing percentage, and what would be a fair percentage amount to put into that fund. Right now I am thinking something like 25-33% of royalties into the information fund. However, if one individual has co-author type first hand knowledge I will recondsider any split.

I plan on having a working draft of the manuscript by the end of summer 2011. However I believe it could theorheticllly be done faster. Being a lawyer, I can do some writting. Let's finally fish instead of cut bait. This story needs to be told.

P.S. I am very cognizant and respectful of the work done by Mr. Schloss. I believe that an interesting story can be told in more than one account, so this is by no means a competition to publish. How many books were written about the 96 everest incident? So I do not wish to step on any toes, but I would hate to see what appears to be hyper critical evidence go unused. I think I have the capacity to stay on task, and just set out to prove or disprove my and other's current and evolving hypothesis. I do not claim to be a great speller, but what the hell, I think I can weave this yarn. I have the motivation, and cannot quit thinking about this fascinating subject.

I know people are interested in this subject. I do not care if you were there or not, I was't. I would like to hear intelligent input from anybody who thinks they have a theory or theories about this crash. Let's talk about what happened based on things we can agree upon. If you read this post, why did you read it? No new information, but even the dead horse stuff can be a part of the bigger puzzle. I do not think the factual surroundings of this incident will ever be FULLY known. It is impossible not to look at this historical event in hindsight, and put a contemporaneous spin on it. That is what I am looking for, not fact for fact, verified, what happened, I believe the general story that the facts point to. What do people who read this think?
Why are you reading this thread?
What is the Most interesting subject matter or top two or three?

there are several long and detailed threads re: the crash on SuperTopo. That is probably the better crowd to be probing than here.

I wasn't there, but my educated guess is that the plane crashed due to a problem of some type.

Spazzy, now that's what I am talking about. First fact, unidisputed the plane crashed. But does your educated analysis tell you the problem occurred before of after hitting the ground. Maybe this is not the right forum, just want to stir the pot a little. Seems like people know facts. Spazzy for example has made an excellent observation.

I have had some interesting input from some people. Thank you for everybody's insight? I think me and Munge are boys now, LOL. If this is misposted, so be it. Do you guys thinks this story has mass appeal, or is it only the community that has interest?

Thank You again for the calls and e-mails keep em coming. This story is interesting from multi perspectives. Right now I would love to talk to anybody who could give a greenhorn some advice about what it is like to XC in the high sierra. Especially, in a dry winter.

Peace Tim
