I don't think I've every heard Pete articulate the full story of what transpired between him and the SC.
(Despite the literally hundreds, if not thousands, of references he's made to it in his postings here and on other sites)

I first corresponded with him in '03 and in that conversation he mentioned that the SC "got rid of him" in '87.
In any case- the altercation is over 2 decades old and long predates both SummitPost and even the WWW.

Here is what happened...

Several of us were in discussions about meeting up with 1000Pks sometime. There was also joking around on all sides. This eventually slid into attacks by 1000Pks on some of us.

Bob Sihler temporarily banned 1000Pks as you know. He said he didn't want to, but that obviously is not true or he wouldn't have done it. No one made him. The reason was the latest attacks on Daria, Vitaliy M, fedak, and me (now deleted or hidden by the elves). We did not ask for this to be deleted or hidden, I presume it was done so others could not observe that this was indeed an overreaction.

I know for a fact that the attacks were not taken personally by at least 3 of us and those three did NOT ask for his banning, nor want him banned. 1000Pks obviously did not think Bob's action was justified and I agree with 1000Pks on this point.

As a result of this over reaction he pulled his pages. Fletch and fatdad are correct about this being advertised as a public site. Lately there is too much involvement by the mods directing the content to fit only thier personal desires. 1000Pks and many others here have done far more than he did a couple weeks ago without consequences. The mods have come out and said they do not intend to enfore the rules uniformly and it shows. Other specific individuals have made more significant attacks on me with more intent than 1000Pks ever did... the result for them was only a warning, after an earlier warning, after an earlier warning. Yet 1000Pks is the one banned.

When you come out and say you are going to be heavy handed, and also proactively apply the rules unevenly and even post you are going to do so in the forum rules, you should expect the quality of the forums to decline. This is what has happened recently in my opinion, though I am sure others who have the alternative set of rules applied to them see it another way.

The bottom line is simply this banning was not warranted.

See you later... I may or may not post again a week or so from now. If I don't then you should probably assume I have been banned for bringing out some of the facts above.

Since he might be done with SummitPost for good now, I think it's better to let this stuff go (now that you know about it).

Good job, Bob. - if it wasn't you than good job, Mr. Moderator.

Keep up the good work.

Soon SP will be abandoned.

Just the way you like it.

Jeese Guy.... BFD!

I got banned well over 14 times and I never took any of my pages, packed my bags and then whined my ass outta here.

Oh, and 1000Pks aint the only one that has done so.

Squishy's back... hint.

No backbone I tell ya. Not one.

If ya can fling the shit, then ya best be prepared to for having the dump of your life laid smack dab right in your lap.

Grow a pair would ya... each and everyone of ya's that got banned then ran.

mrchad9, I don't think the issue was really the recent remarks; we all knew that 1000pks tended to get hot under the collar, and no one took it very seriously. I was quite surprised at the temporary ban, in the context of that thread, as the insults rolled off me faster than water off DWR.

I think the issue might have been: that was the 3rd thread 1000pks had posted recently, seemingly looking for partners. And a few new folks responded. And the number of threads where he was adding oblique, negative comments was increasing; newcomers would start following the threads and see this constant litany about SP being full of poseurs and bigots. A simple thread asking a fairly simple question could go on for 15 pages with about 3% actual content, between 1000pks comments, and the folks who poked sticks at him.

I think the temporary ban was more a request that he take a chill pill. To paraphrase The Chief: if you sh*t on people, expect to be sh*t upon. I would hazard a guess that there is past history here, with other internet forums.

Looks like 1000pks is back, I'm glad of that. He has given some really good advice, and the MLC SC references serve as a kind of punctuation, interpreted as "read no farther."

[quote="MoapaPk"] To paraphrase The Chief: if you sh*t on people, expect to be sh*t upon. I would hazard a guess that there is past history here, with other internet forums.

[quote]

I disagree with the statement "if you sh*t on people, expect to be sh*t upon." First of all, if you follow suit-you are just perpetuating the cycle. Second, you are being ignorant twice: first, because you unquestioningly make such normalizing claims just because the status quo adheres to them. and second, you are immediately ignorant by not knowing that you are the culprit, not 1000pks when it comes to sh*ting on people. By not accepting individuals who may be different, there is immediate discrimination that may then provoke people to act in certain ways. One quick way to combat such discrimination is, instead of attacking someone, ask the question why, why would someone be compelled to sh*t on people?

Re-did Mitchell Point. If I recall, the old page mainly told people to look in the DPS guide, anyway.

I'm trying to cut down the time I take to make a page, but it still seems like an awkward process. The bulk uploader helps.

The peaks with new pages have already been stricken from the list. I figured this list needed a bump, as there are still a few important peaks that have not had new pages created since these were all deleted.
