dhude, you are an old fart. my mom was saying the same damn thing... hehehehehe

And my Mom taught me to listen very carefully to what Old Farts have to say and then heed them.....

you just might be surprised chief... thing is, like you, this internet thing is damn entertaining to me. kinda like that campfire of past. the shit gets slung, the egos bruised, but when it is all said and done, the climbers still come back to hang out... usually with each other time and time again... and EVEN IF no one admits a damn thing, there is some learning taking place. now don't let this out, but one thing i have learned from these vitual campfires is how to attack my battles. being right does not mean a damn thing, its figuring out how to come together...

i have to admit, in face to face contact, you are a great guy. you invited me into your home just so i can get beta. i still have topos that you gave me for some of those obscure routes on ruby wall. i am hanging on to those until i can convince some other fool to go play on that choss. no one, and i mean NO ONE seems interested, but for some reason i am hooked on doing daphne (sp?). we got up a good ways until the "sea level to high altitude in under 8 hour" syndrome kicked in. but now that my kids are older, i have been able to get back to doing it right again. no more mtn sickness for me.

anyways, i don't want folks to think i am a softy so i will stop. i may not show it in the internet, but you're a climber in my book. my favorite kind, you dish it out and you don't run away when its given right back to you... what was this campfire thread about anyways????

Actually, it's just another challenging day on the rope. The thinner the better. Keeps ya focused, alive and coming back for more actually. Had to tie off the minimally placed and very few 10 & 13cm's on the first two pitches, we did. Headed back out for more all next week. Gotta time races all weekend. Will definitely get on the thinnest and most mixed up lines possible. Oh yeah!

X15... it's all good!

Wait and see what happens the next few months. Wasn't it in Feb-March-April 2005 we had a continuous stream of storms come into California? No huge storms, but they came in one after another and dumped lots of the white stuff, and we still had quite a bit here in So Cal into early July on top of San Gorgonio.

Good start around Christmas/New Years, but these days its is getting pretty pathetic down here in the So Cal mountains around L.A.

Mr Leghorn wrote:La Nina's tend to be drier in the later winter and spring, and can be wetter in the fall and early winter. There was a link on the San Diego NWS page that mentioned this, but I don't know what happened to it. 2005 was a El Nino, like last year. This year is a La Nina, and while I don't expect the southern half of California to be completely dry, I wouldn't expect a train of storms.

Late 1974 early 75 was a La Nina event.... the Rain God's pisssed their asses off all over So Cal from Feb- April '75.

"La NiƱa" events between 1950 and 2011

The Chief wrote:GFS is beginning to show the proverbial Feb-March colder temps and precip. I say March and April will be wet as the La Nina has peaked and the Jet Stream is beginning to show evidence of dipping south.

Be careful what ya'll are asking for. I remember this happening back in '75. January was hot & dry then February through April came and were cold wetass months in SoCal.

Hey Chief,

Just wondering where one can find long range GFS data for California? Do you have a link?

GFS is showing a consistent Negative Pattern through the end of the month with numerous cold wet impulses and Closed Lows streaming out of the Gulf of Alaska though the first week of March.

The ice gods just informed me it will only scrape houses off the map as far as the Sherwin Grade, Bishop will be spared. But be prepared for mass flooding and possible rainbow trout sightings in the kitchen (oops that part was supposed to be posted on the food thread!).
