Sonora Pass is scheduled to open this Friday, depending upon what happens with the Wednesday-Thursday storm... Tioga not until June 30!

Wait a minute. What storm?....

Uh oh. Just looked it up. Wind gusts of 80 tomorrow and 105 tomorrow night here in Crowley. Won't be good for those tent campers down at the lake, but it will keep the skeeters away.

Ten Bucks says that those winds never materialize. After ten or so years of trying to figure out how to prep for the proverbial Hurricane winds that we can get here, I finally found this system is pretty accurate.

When the NWS forecasts em, dud. Nada. It is when they mention nothing in their forecast for strong winds that we get hammered.

Caltrans says 120 is closed 5 miles west of 395.
Is this correct? Not quite halfway to Tioga Pass?

That is where the seasonal GATE closure at the beginning of grade just past the Poole Rd. is located.

Road to South lake should be open tomorrow, 26th. Plowed all the way, but been closed for some dam repairs. Closed at the pack station atm.

I just heard that Caltrans plans to keep the seasonal gate closed until 120 is open. The current estimate is June 30th.

Change in plans. They're going to try to have the lower gate open on Friday.

Thanks. Any idea how firm that is? I'm going in to Tuolumne meadows, and it might be agreeable to save a bit of a hike
by waiting a day....

Drove to the gate this evening. Barely any snow along the road. Sign confirms tomorrow's opening on schedule.

sweeeeeet! gonna ditch work tomorrow and head over there until monday, should be fun!

QUESTIONS:

1.how high up will this go(just so i can plan my days)?
i.e. will it be open up to the saddlebag lake turnoff? will it be open up to the entrance? how does it usually work?

2. is saddlebag lake gonna be frozen still? any guesses?

3.to be clear the shortest route at the moment is up to south tahoe and down through bridgeport correct?

i'd like to be able to drive up a ways because friday will prob be a short day for me...

thanks for your help, wish me luck on a sweet weekend!

I think Fossana was talking about the gate on the road to South Lake.

Per the White Mtn ranger station no estimated opening date for the North Lake road although it is accessible by bike.

Is overnight parking ok there at the turnout before the road to North Lake?
