July 4th Backpacking suggestions?
Posted: Mon Jun 20, 2011 10:08 pmAny suggestions in the Highway 108-4-88 corridor? Trying to avoid Yosemite crowds. Looking for a 3/4day 10-12mi/day type deal, either as a loop, out-and-back, and/or basecamp with dayhiking. Bonus points for interesting mountains to climb nearby. Currently my main concern is non-bridged creek/river crossings, since with what I saw in Yosemite last weekend it would be really easy to get blocked by an impassable torrent of water.
For instance, two options I'm considering are heading towards Dorothy Lake from Leavitt Meadows and dayhiking around Northern Yosemite (I'm guessing this would still be mostly snow-covered in 2 weeks) or doing some sort of loop in the Emigrant out of Pinecrest/Kennedy Meadows (less snow, but more concerned with creek crossings...last time I was in the Relief Resevoir area, there were quite a few creek crossings that would be problematic in high-flow times).
