Rocky Creek Canyon / Pyramid Peak Conditions

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has been up Rocky Creek Canyon to Pyramid Peak recently? I wanted to do this hike next week, but I'm not sure if a creek crossing will be possible right now with the heavy runoff. From what I understand, the trail starts east of the creek, then crosses over at some point to the west. I don't know if there is an alternative trail on the west side of the creek (without a murderous bushwhack!), or other creek-crossing options higher up where the flow may be a bit more mellow?

Thanks.

The crossing is about a third of the way up the drainage, so it isn't low on the mountain. I drew this path in right after my hike, so it was the best of my recollection at the time.

To follow up, that crossing is probably above 7500 ft . . . you might be in snow bridge territory there. At the least, you will probably be able continue up the east side on snow if you need to. I remember the area north of the "Wilderness Boundary" line shown on the map to be mellow valley territory, with few trees. I think you'll be okay.

I descended Rocky Canyon this past Sunday 6/19 (we ascended via Horsetail Falls). We ended up staying on the west side of the creek rather than either risking a sketchy snow bridge or climbing back up to get to an area with better snowpack. There was minimal bushwhacking with careful routefinding. There is even a faint use trail for the bottom section. Be aware that there are numerous side creeks flowing into Rocky Creek that you'll have to cross.

I have few photos from that section, but if you're interested in conditions up higher: http://picasaweb.google.com/rachel.finck/PyramidPeakLoop
