Tahoe Rim Trail (parking for 10 days)

I plan on thru hiking the Tahoe Rim Trail within the next week. I'm trying to find a good place to leave my car for 10 days, where it would minimize the probability of it getting broken into. I'm coming from Sacramento, so would like to start either on the west or south side of Tahoe (but could take I80 if there's a good suggest north of Tahoe). Any suggestions. I don't mind hiking a few extra miles either. Also any trail conditions would be nice, especially water availability on the north and east. Thanks.

There is an AMTRAK bus to South Lake Tahoe from the Sacramento station.

i was along parts of the trt last week on the sw side and there are still some good size snow fields on and along the trail in spots the higher you get. water is not an issue there, it was flowing strong everywhere we were. take deet.

you could always contact the managing agency to get advice about parking.

I think the area around Highway 267 is off the road a bit and secluded from general population traffic. Would be hikers only.

I'd recommend the Echo Lake PCT trailhead lot. (My preference is not to leave my car someplace completely isolated, tho)

If you *do* want to leave your car someplace isolated there's miles of forest road near Barker Pass and back along the forest access road for the Armstrong Pass trailhead.

The only place I've repeatedly heard of issues is in the Eagle Falls trailhead- there always seem to be reports of breakins down there.

I'd expect the east side to be mostly bone dry now between Snow Valley Peak and Star Lake. Tank up at Spooner.
And I'd prepare for ungodly skeeters in Desolation.
