Hello out there, i just wanted to know if anyone knows what the current condition of Sonora Peak is?? I know there tends to be quite a bit of snow up there, rather late in the summer, and i was thinking of possibly heading up there in the next few weeks. If anyone may have been up there and seen the conditions, it would be very helpful, thanks.

just drove over it today; lots of snow, but mostly melted out. idk if that helps. saw a couple spots you could tie together some decent turns w/skis, probably all sun-cupped though. felt like may/june not august.

I was up there July 30, and it was pretty much melted out. There were a few side-sloped snow crossings, but nothing bad. There's also still a very large snow patch on the flat part before the final summit ascent, but also pretty easy. Very few bloodsuckers, which was nice.

Well, that doesnt look all that bad. I have very good waterproof Merrill boots, micro spikes and ice axe, if needed. I have really been looking forward to finally do that hike. I know it isnt all that long a hike, but a really nice scenic area. I also am trying to get another shot at mt whitney, for next month, so i thought maybe i can do this hike to help get ready, again. Thanks for the great information on Sonora Peak!
