The wolf seems to be good at sniffing out controversy; it sounds like he is in the area between Mt. Shasta and the Agricultural Inspection Stations on I-5 and U.S 97, between the Shasta and Klamath Rivers, not far from some dams that may be removed. As priorly mentioned, major controversy surrounding endangered species goes way back in far northern California. This article gives a taste of what has been going on over the past decade, after the spotted owl and sucker fish controversies of the 1980s and 1990s, and long before a wolf started roaming the area. Whatever one believes should happen, it is easy to see why people get upset.

Background details prior to a whistleblower aspect being reported:

Science, competing agendas, or both?

It might be nice to be the wolf, paying no mind to any of the above.

Well, he just had about 2.5 feet of snow dumped on him, if he is in the mountains.

I don't know how many are aware of the current Wolf issue... as of today 507 Wolves have been killed due to the hunts in both Idaho and Montana!..I am posting this to let people know Wolves are being killed by both hunters and trappers which is a cruel inhumane method for killing any animal!

The only wolf I ever saw in Arizona was in captivity. Guess I need to visit California more often, but I can't afford the gasoline ... BUMMER. :(

HE'S BACK!

The wolf did return to Oregon for awhile, but then returned to northeastern California. As spring has shifted to summer, he's even ventured through Plumas county to Butte county (Chico is the best known city nearby).
