Anyone been up to horseshoe falls or roadside recently? What on the east side is in right now? Hopefully the new precip and warm, sunny days are helping. We're planning on heading up next weekend and debating where to go.

The roadside ice has some good stuff to play on. Lee Vining Cyn is also climbable. The ice is a little less than previous years but what is there is good climbing. Lately there's been more ice forming. The left side of Chouinard's Wall is in and the right side has been getting better all the time. The Main Wall has been thin all year making for some nice mixed lines and a thin curtain. It has seen more water on it lately. I'm guessing by this weekend there should be more to climb on.

Have fun up there!!

We climbed there on Sunday morning and it was pretty much a ghost town, one other party and us. The right side had pretty good coverage but seemed to have some air in it making it kinda funky taking screws. The first screw I place would got part way in and then just spin when it hit the air. After 4 or 5 attempts I opted to just scramble up and setup a top rope instead since it was my first ice lead of the season and I was a bit tired from snowboarding the day before. It can definitely be lead and there area number of lines you can climb on the right. The ice was solid with just a handful of hollow sections and thin spots. The other party lead the left side and it was thick enough to take shorter screws, however the ice was showing some effects of the more direct sunlight it gets in the morning. Overall fun climbing and a number of options available.

Horsetail falls had a significant amount of water flowing down the center, not sure what kind of climbing there is up there. The right side looked pretty white so possibly some ice up there but probably really aerated and we didn't bother heading up that far.

It was my understanding that Road Side Ice was closed to ice climbing?

I went and checked out the Ice this weekend on a ski trip to June Mtn. The ice was super thin, might still be climbable, but you better hate your gear. Horstail Falls was flowing like crazy, no climbing there.
