Fish Creek Trail Conditions?

Hi,

I'm interested in backpacking the Fish Creek Trail (as described in The High Sierra - Peaks, Passes, Trails) this upcoming weekend, but I'm concerned about the snow. I haven't been that far north this year, and was wondering if anyone knew the general conditions for that region.

Thanks,

~JP

The road to Red's Meadow trailhead is still snowbound and will open later than usual this spring due to necessary cleanup of trees blown over in a windstorm this winter. The route over Mammoth Pass also has quite a bit of snow right now.

The forest service has said they will begin clearing downed trees from the trails when they can access the area in the spring. The clearing of outlying trails, such as Fish Creek, may be delayed as they focus on more popular trails. I don't know if the Fish Creek trail was surveyed for downed trees yet, but some trails in the area have hundreds of trees blocking them. One long time resident of Reds Meadow told me that the trees were blown over in huge swaths, with some areas completely blown over and other areas seemingly untouched by the big winds.
