Climbing Mt Shasta via Casaval Ridge route (Grade III) on May 19-20, 2012.

This trip report video covers overall the whole route: walking from Bunny Flat to Horse Camp, climbing to the Casaval Ridge Base Camp at around 10,000 feet, ascending several steep slopes, crossing Catwalk, Misery Hill, and approaching the summit. There are also some shots of West Face and Shastina as well as Avalanche Gulch. Shot with Sony DSC-HX7V (primary) & GoPro (helmet mount).

So you can see the conditions on the mountain over that weekend, but also for those who have never climbed this route, it may be a good resource of what to expect.

Sweet. The catwalk doesn't really look that bad. I'm sure it's a different story with large amounts of snow stacking on it and falling off the side.

Well I did not believe it myself it was so easy. It was not even close to what I remember from my previous trips. In fact at certain point I doubted it was Catwalk but could not find any other one :) So now is the best time to do CR for those who want to take it easy.

There is some nice footage there. My attention span is too short to watch the entire video, so I fas forarded but liked what I saw.

Thanks, I know it’s a bit lengthy (and you need a beer) but I wanted to cover most of the route. Next time I’ll try to focus on the key points only. However, it’s not that easy to get the right shots without interrupting the climbers and maintaining the pace. They just keep going... :)
