I wonder how long the 'Last Chance Road' had gone without maintenance. I was looking for that road last year, and it appeared to have been left to return to the wild for a very long time. It seems that Inyo County may have only wanted to reopen the road when they realized that the window of opportunity was closing.

Other old roads into the nearby Sylvania Mountains Wilderness are now great hiking trails.
