This storm has been a complete bust at 7500ft- just the initial 6 inches on Friday and its been nothing but pouring rain ever since.

California forecasts are calling for lots of sun and not much snow in December. I wonder what I'll be able to easily access when I have time to head to the high country again at the end of the month!?

Regardless, after a wet start with over 6 inches of rain at my place and over 12 at some of my nearby hiking spots, December is shaping up to be a great time to run the trails around where I live. Much of the state has only approached freezing temperatures one night this fall. Plants are faring well, and so were fall colors prior to winds over the weekend. Our golden rolling hills are green again until the dry season starts. Aside from the short days, it should be a fun time to be outside.

Sad story, not too many details. They were 4 wheeling and I guess got stuck in a snowdrift. After that details are limited on how they got stuck. Highway 88 though does almost a 180 degree turn around the road (Burnside) there. They were pretty darn close to the highway as well. I guess they got turned around for awhile?

Also, a lot of rain recently and no snow.

Yeah not many details. I really don't know how you can get lost when on a road, much less near a highway. Even so about the only time I take a GPS now is in snow conditions below treeline. Best not to depend on it, but good to have just in case.

That is fairly odd- most of Burnside isn't terribly far off of 88 or Blue Lake Roads and once you get out of tree cover there is pretty good visibility in that meadow.

Did they really go 4 wheeling in snow conditions w/o snow gear?

I can't remember is there really no cell reception back in that area? Isn't Hawkins peak the location of all the cell towers?

Areas of Hope Valley have good cell service, going towards Sorensens a little sketchy, towards Red Lake- better. At the area of the DOT shed at Burnside, pretty good. Back in the trees? Up on Pickett- good.
