I actually am happy when it finally gets down to single digits for a day or two. After that, all of a sudden mid 20s and low 30s seem so much warmer, and the cooler winter temps are just sort of relative, and don't seem so bad...and low 30s makes for some great running weather (sure beats the hell out of running when its 90F and 90% humidity in July and August!).

Unfortunately NE Indiana doesn't get the lake effect snow from Lake Michigan, so we deal with flatlands, cold weather and very little snow. But Michigan is just a short drive away if we want to enjoy snow and cooler temps.

I saw a hilarious clip showing weather reports from Cali about the "cold snap" In L.A. Saying how freezing it was at 55F. I almost died laughing. Then went outside in the thigh deep snow and the -23F temperature and almost died walking the kids to school... well maybe not died but I did wish I had brought my hat.... But it was a beautiful day today, less then 10cm of snow fell last night and a balmy 19F. I got pretty warm shoveling.... again...

Acutually the temps have been dipping down into the high 20F's for a few hours in the morning, not 55F. But yeah, folks here in Southern Calif are whimps. Heck, I get up and go bicycle riding/jogging in 30F temps; love those first 10 minutes when my face feels like its gonna freeze, just like on a cold peak

. What we haven't had is a lot of snow - the storms that have come across Southern Calif have only dropped some light snow and rain. Luckly there's the Sierra Nevada Mtns.

After pulling out long sleeves for a couple of weeks, short sleeves are the norm again and I've been drenched in sweat trail running and cycling with highs back to the 60's, but the nights are still dipping below freezing at my place. It would be a great time to use skis or snow shoes in the mountains. Here's the humor referenced by NW:

Over here, we're about to have a heat wave:

So far this month:

As you can see, it really is going to be warmer than it has been lately. We may possibly even have a 24 hour period where the temperature stays above 0F for an entire 24 hours which hasn't happened in a while.

^^^I can't say I've ever experienced weather as cold as that heat wave is predicted to be (for lows), but I suppose folks adapt to conditions. Some adapt differently than others. :wink:

Serious advice: you need to start getting into winter climbing, snowshoeing, alpine touring, etc. Winter is the best time of year in SoCal's mountains.

Only thing I hate about winter is I don't like walking home in the dark; and it is savagely cold here in the office, it never warms up. Some mornings my fingers are too cold to type. But I am thinking about getting a heater.

Not much into winter climbing (yet) but do enjoy ice fishing and winter hiking. We're hitting a warm snap into the upper 30's and I plan on taking advantage of it and heading into the black hills. Last weeks -45 wind chills can come back at any moment!
