I had the pleasure of hiking and climbing with Pat quite a bit over the past couple of years. She was one of the most kind and enthusiastic people I have ever met. She was always up for anything and had a spirit that was infectious to anyone around her.

I have so many great memories of the adventures we have gone on together and knowing that we won't be able to do that anymore is very difficult.

Rest in peace, Pat. You will never be forgotten.

Such a heart-breaking loss of life.
Hugs to everyone in the Sierra (and beyond).
Pat's legacy sounds like it will live on as strongly as she did.

These are pictures someone shared on her facebook wall that I thought were great, hope they don't mind me sharing here.

She was an elite level mountain biking athlete, placing 3rd at the world championships one year.

There are so many posts from former and current students about how great of a coach and teacher she was.

Her toughness and her friendly character are both reflected in the second photo above.

I've finished a more detailed report concerning the incident for those interested:

It was not easy to write, but I had much help from the principals involved. Pat will be sorely missed.

Bob,

A captivating narrative of a tragic event. As you say, we can probably never know exactly what precipated her fall, but a possible scenario of weighting a piece thought secure but which gave way, is something that can happen to anyone, however careful. Condolences to her family and friends.

It was a tough day for sure with the sorrow, the drive to and from Placentia, and the heat in the gymnasium, but I wouldn't have missed it. Reconnecting with friends and making new ones, as well as meeting Bob Hadley and seeing the out-pouring of love from her Valencia High family - she left such a legacy with those youngsters. We should all hope to be that loved and adored. I'll miss her but always feel her around me.
