Thanks, ROL! Yup, I do prefer to take the boards out instead of the slow shoes...

Buuuuttt... these conditions would have been survival skiing at its finest. Had enough of that this winter. Maybe May will find me further north and trying to find a few turns. ;)

Ok, I gotta brag. Today, Heather and I skied off Mammoth down Turkey Gulch (after several awesome warm-up runs on Cornice) for a couple miles to the hot springs. Bikinis - Jagermeister ... you get the picture. Stellar ski conditions and crazy fun tree slalom!

Excellent!
That's one I've always wanted to do. Good for you!

Fellow California-Dawgs!

Meysan area was a sweltering delight this weekend! Snow conditions were great in the morning, a little slippery and occasionally posthole-y in the sun of the day. We spiked it all the way up to the notch between Irvine/Mallory with no issues. This was in the wee hours of the morning, would not have wanted to climb those slopes in the easy-bake-oven of the late morning/early afternoon. Not bad for a couple/three losers that have never been to Lee Vining.

Approach to Meysan Lake camp - Went up mostly on the south side of the drainage, which had its share of horrible boulder hopping due to only moderate coverage. Came back on the North side, the trail is mostly clear of snow save a few short sections. Lakes are partially to 99% frozen above 10,500 or so.

Enjoy the pics! I showed them to my old climbing buddy, and he said he had it directly from BBBS San Diego that you DO NOT EXIST.

From the top of Silver Canyon:

West Ridge is looking pretty clear for those into the long slog...

For White Mountain fans:

All gates are open along White Mountain Road, including the one past Schulman; all gates on Silver Canyon are open, road is clear bottom to top, 4WD/clearance necessary.
White Mountain Road is clear all the way to Crooked Creek, then only a few drifts to contend with to get to Patriarch Grove.
A few impassable drifts past there, although most of the road is wide open.

A gorgeous weekend up high!!

Thanks to a certain someone, it's almost always an inside joke. The guy is a lulz-machine.
