First trip I didn't have to pull the axe or crampons off my pack so spring is over, I guess.

Less snow in this area last weekend than there was when I went in July 30 in 2011.

7.5 hour Dayhike of Mt. Agassiz with a late 2pm start on Monday 6/17, perfect windless day. Gorgeous in the Sierra right now, get out there!!!

That's weird.

I remember you making light of that climb on a different forum.

Huh.

Monday I did the LLP to Morgan traverse. Shit ton of fun 3rd/4th class across the ridge. Sunny with a stiff breeze, had to step in soft snow to get off Morgan down to Hidden Lakes...and not ONE mosquito all day!

I read that. It sounds pretty cool. You got me interested in that.

I know you climbed Dana Couloir a couple weeks ago, so I'll ask if you care to speculate at all as to what it might look like a week and a half from now, i.e., June 29. I'm kind of thinking of a day trip up; like I think you did.

I think you'll have great snow conditions. Definitely dayhike it! You won't need any equipment other than an axe and crampons. Seriously doubt if there's gonna be ice in there before Aug. There was a crevasse down by Dana Lake but it's actually quicker to stay high and right of the lake - we just wanted to jump a crevasse. :)

Methinks it might be time to put this thread to bed, it being officially "summer" date- and conditions-wise...

I treated myself to a long walk on Friday, to celebrate 40 years of my being on this big round rock. I wanted to use every scrap of the day, so I rolled out of the TOF at midnight and reached my first goal of seeing the sunrise above Donahue Pass:

Image

After summiting Donahue Peak around 0630, I dropped a chute on the south face and cruised the meadows back to the JMT:

Image

And then it was just a long, gorgeous cruiser the rest of the day to Red's Meadow:

Happy Solstice and summer to everyone! Have a grand summer!!
