Angeles Crest Hwy (CA-2) open/status?

Hi everyone:

Will be in SoCal next week visiting family, and hoped to hike a few trail-peaks along SR-2 (Angeles Crest Hwy). So... is it open?

The CalTrans website says it's closed between Islip Saddle and west of Big Pines, but that was dated for January because of "winter conditions".

The peaks I am interested in are congregated on the west end near the Red Box ranger station. If I can get there, I'm happy with that. However, I'm coming in from Wrightwood, and would rather not go the long way through the city and suburbs. Any info is appreciated.

it's closed every winter due to avalanche / rockfall conditions on that stretch of the highway. i was up there one week ago and there was still snow in some places. that is not likely to change due to this week's storm, which is bringing snow to the higher elevations. sorry to say, but you will probably have to go around.
