Does anyone know if the smoke reaches all the way to the east side? Was thinking about doing Conness but don't want to be breathing a bunch of smoke all day!

Not sure how far south it goes, but Tahoe and Carson Valley have heavy heavy smoke from that fire:

Here's Tahoe at the moment:

Satellite view of the smoke from today: http://rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/imagery/subsets/?subset=AERONET_Fresno.2013234.terra.500m

East side looks clear, at least for now.

You are looking at the lake :)
The peak in the center is "Round Mound" near Zephyr Cove

Here's the view on a good day:

Jeez, that's hard to believe. Thx fedak. I camp at Cherry Lake every year (Father's Day week) and a buddy of mine just got back. Probably 10 miles, at the most east of the fire, it must be really socked in. One of the roads the CDF is using is Cherry Lake Road for their staging.

Yeah, the American Fire west of Tahoe has been blowing smoke into Tahoe for a week or two- but its the Yosemite blaze that is being blamed for bulk of the current haze.

Look at that sat map linked above- the smoke from that fire is also blowing north and thus it mostly isn't hitting Tahoe.
(And look at how much more smoke the Yosemite fire is generating compared to the other stuff that is burning)

Ok, here's the scoop on the smoke:

The fire is west of Yosemite and the winds are blowing north- thus Yosemite itself is largely clear. Tuolumne Meadows was crystal clear this morning and a bit hazy as the day wore on. You can see the plumes of smoke off to the west from the TM area ridges.

Tahoe Area (Desolation/Granite Chief/Mokelumne) are completely smoked in with visibility of less than a mile.
The Carson/Antelope valleys seem to have the worst of it.

395 was smokey all the way south to Lee Vining this morning. Mono lake had cleared out by afternoon and the smoke didn't really start until Bridgeport.
So I'm guessing the eastern/southern sides of Hoover/Emigrant are probably better than the western/northern portions.
