Mountaineers.org offers some year long programs that teach a wide range of mountaineering and alpine skills over the course of an year, which includes several trips too. Here's an example:

Does anyone know if there is a similar organization in CA? All I find are private outfits that have 3-day or 5-day courses.

"The course includes 5 lectures and 7 field trips plus readings."

I think that any guiding agency could cobble that together if you wanted it. You might even learn the same during a couple of days one on one with a guide, spread out through the seasons.

I know very little about either of these groups. Others on this forum might have info/experiences with them. Maybe someone else will jump in here..
