Yes, Wheeler is snow-covered in December.

In fact, parts of northern Utah and eastern Nevada are receiving snow as

we speak.

For sure. Even the tropics get snow at 13000 feet, in Hawaii for example. Wheeler, near latitude 39 degrees, even gets enough snow to barely sustain a (mini) glacier on its north side.

I hiked Guadalupe Peak twice in February 2000, and I wore shoes, shorts, and no shirt. I did have to put on a shirt when I stopped at the summit because it was below 55F. Brrrrrrrr!

If you're talking about Wheeler Peak, NV, I would pick an easier-to-get-to destination. That place is seriously remote.

I "hiked" up Charleston today from Bristlecone Trail. 25F when I started; perfect shorts and t-shirt weather. I did have to watch the ice on my descent through Lee Canyon (seriously).

yeah the texas one. i meant the Wheeler in NM but someone PM'd me about it. i didn't realize that there was 2

By Bull-o-the-woods, you can snowshoe to the top of Wheeler NM ... but it will be a long day.

HisDudeness is the local expert on Wheeler NM.

There are two (at least) in Nevada. Plus the one (at least) in New Mexico. Plus who knows how many more. (Too lazy to look right now.)

I figured it was NM so I jumped in. Just trying to come up with some ideas for places if I have money to travel and use my vacation time maybe after xmas. Since I would probaly drive since plane tickets are expensive I might try to bring people along who wouldn't have experience to help with gas. Wanna do some highpointing too.

Since my phone got damp and jacked up on mt. Mitchell in NC I can't go back and edit or re-word anything after I type

There are three Wheelers in Nevada, and one in New Mexico.

Here are some current pictures of the area taken over memorial weekend......as you can see there is still TONS of snow left up there for this time of year.
