I'm planning a motorcycle trip to Tucson for the long T-day weekend and am looking for route suggestions (soloing so 5.7 max). Thinking about the W Gully on Elephant Head and Thimble Peak. thanks

(5.6) on Babo, which though is a ways from Tucson, and the west side of Weaver's Needle (5.4) by Apache Junction (out of eastern Phoenix). Just wouldn't recommend soloing, though, the rock is loose, and you'd want to rap off both of those peaks.

I noted lots of routes off the Catalina Highway, there was a good page here on that. You may wish to have a NPS pass with hologram or whatever now for that (required to park).

That Tucson Mountain Park is a great campground, although over the holidays it looks to be full up.

BTW, I haven't rock climbed for decades. It sounds pretty cool to do that, although I liked having a good second (and even a third).

Thanks, was initially planning on Babo, but it seems kind of out of the way. The Tucson Mountains page on SP is great, BTW. That's where I found my 2 potential options.

+1 for Baboquivari!

Also, I've always been fond of Chiricahua National Monument. Not too far from Tucson as the
crow flies!

Well due to the overwhelming vote I'm going to have to give Babo a try. Will report back. Thanks all!

Change in plans. Looks like I will be working part of the time so heading to the E Side instead to cut down on the travel time. Again, I appreciate the recommendations.

I used to build trails on the east side - inside Saguaro National Park.

The Santa Catalinas have some nice rock on them, just north/northeast of Tucson.

Good luck out there on your bike, and don't take too much turkey from anybody. Have fun!
