Snow in the Flastaff AZ mountains. Pics anyone? It was still there this morning after four or five days.

The National Weather Service had predicted snow in northern Arizona above 9,000-feet, as early as last Wednesday.

Before you all go freakin' BONKERS over the white stuff, we still have a ways to go before the
San Francisco Peaks are completely covered.

So.. don't chomp down on your bits too hard ... yet.

Hiked Fremont and Doyle this weekend. On Fremont, there was a good 4 inches of snow on the north slopes and very icy in spots. Did some October glissading as well.

What was your approach ???

I heard the "Lockett Meadow/Inner Basin was
closed by the USFS due to a wildfire earlier
this year.

Seems like they would have closed the gate..
Was it open ?

Just learned that everything EAST of the Weatherford Trail is indeed closed.

But, according to the USFS, a person can park at the TH near Schultz Tank, and hike up the Weatherford Trail to the saddle between Doyle and Fremont.

The Weatherford Trail must have been the boundary of the Schultz Fire. Guess I need to go up there
and check it out..

Thats the way we approached Fremont and Doyle. The fire was started around Shultz Pass area and then burned up a drainage up and over Shultz Peak to the point where it finally just exploded and went everywhere. As far as I know, the fire was well away from the Weatherford Trail. I guess it just serves as a point to close off an area, which is too bad

What's "too bad" is that one lousy "abandoned campfire" had to spoil part of a magnificent area.

Just left the Grand Canyon Tues afternoon and the mountains were still quite covered in snow. What is that range just outside of Flagstaff? We had perfect weather in the Canyon for 4 days.

The Radio Fire on Mount Elden, also a human-caused fire occurring 33 years ago.

Actually, the vegetation seems to be returning to Elden.

And.. anybody who's lived in AZ for any length of time knows they're called THE PEAKS or "San Francisco Peaks."

Also, it's SIERRA, not SIERRAS... ha, ha .......

Snow has finally come to Flagstaff!
