I thought the Forest Service had the trail closed off, due to the Schultz Fire. Is the Lockett Meadows CG open yet? I'm seriously losing ALL patience.

I took the Weatherford from Schultz Tank up to Doyle Saddle. Hiked to Schultz Tank from my house, which is at the base of Elden (took Sandy Seep and Little Elden and a couple other trails). Don't know where the FS has stuff closed off, but apparently I somehow got around that. Anyways, I'd take the Snowbowl route if I were you. Went down it yesterday and it's fairly well stomped.

Does anybody out there in virtual Cyber-Land know if the Inner Basin is open yet ???

I took the Snowbowl/regular route yesterday (Saturday, June 4th) and while it had some snow drifts, they were definitely packed enough that they were not a problem. More windy than I had imagined but, but the views from the top were worth it. Thanks to everyone who gave any input on this subject, this was my first post and it's nice to know people are out there to give some feedback!

I'm not sure I would even want to imagine what it would have been like up there if the winds were at 64 mph in town...

I was up in the area on saturday. It was very active with the storms. Admittedly I did not climb Humphreys. However, I did climb Sitgreaves nearby. If the weather is active, you still have a reasonable chance if you get a very early start and can be at the top by 7 or 8 a.m., meaning a pre-dawn start. The thunderheads were starting to build by 9 a.m. or so. It's a calculated gamble.

I think the monsoon has been very busy this past week, moreso than usual. I did see the break in the pattern at least for the southern deserts on the various weather sites, so I echo Lionel above. However, even in normal monsoon conditions, you want to be down and back in the trees by mid-morning.

What's with the road closures? Does the FS get a kick out of closing gates, or is that just par for the course ???
