This happened in February. I knew Ioana and worked with her. It was a horribly tragic event and a sad. sad loss. She truly was a good person who immersed herself in life. A scholarship has been set up in her honor here at ASU:

Though I knew not this vibrant young woman, I could feel her passion through her photo and her story. Perhaps it's hit me so hard because I have recently been in this Grand Canyon. Or maybe it could be that she makes me think of my own children, 26 and 28 years old. Regardless, this tragedy sickens me and I can only hope that her husband and family can come to grips with it and,....go on with their lives.

The thought that the smile that Yowana wears in that photo will never be seen again, is a tough one to accept. At least, she was living her dream when her time came. Not many can claim that.

There, but for the grace of whatever you want to call it, go we all. One misstep or one rock destined to give way is all it takes. Be safe
