Lake Meade wilderness sound like an oxymoron.

Most of Lake Mead (no e) area is far wilder than most of the areas discussed on summitpost. You typically see no one when you leave the road, and often see bighorns, bobcats, and lots of fresh puma tracks.

That may well be, but the lake is a man-made feature - the very opposite of the idea of wilderness.

I'm guessing you'll find a lot of man-made features abutting other "wilderness" areas-- roads, huts, and so forth. In 50 trips to Lake Mead wilderness area, I've been to the lake 2x. If anything, the lake increases the isolation of areas like Gold Butte and Gold Cross Peak-- before the lake, people could drive to those places directly from Vegas.

My comment was really about the irony of the name; not about the quality of wilderness.
