Anyone know any good Bouldering areas in central Maryland? Most of the areas I have been to locally only have a couple problems and have not been climbed on recently either. I'm also looking for a local guide book for the area (MD,DC,PA,VA), since "Climb Maryland!" has been out of print and too expensive for a used copy.

There definitely is a decent amount of bouldering at Rocks State Park and Sugarloaf. Morgan Run also has a fair amount of bouldering. There used to be a guide online for Harpers Ferry bouldering (supposedly a lot) but it's no longer online and I don't have a copy.

That's a shame that Climb Maryland is no longer in print. It's a great book. I'd call Earth Treks since they may still have it in stock (I can swear I remember seeing copies of it at Earth Treks Timonium last week) as well as the REI in Timonium as well.

Morgan Run is what I'm talking about being not climbed on (the bouldering that is), which is a shame because it's only 15 minutes from my job.

I've checked out Indy's online guide, which is how I found the bouldering area downstream at Morgan Run, I was just hoping to find an area that isn't infested with spiders...(hate those little buggers) and maybe someother boulderers in the area. (kinda new to the sport)

Climb Maryland is definitely *the* resource for MD climbing. I didn't know it was out of print, but word on the street is that there may be a second edition in the works. Indy has been climbing at some new places and making new connections around the state.

I'll ask next time I see him. He's gotten into SCUBA lately, so who knows.

I was at REI in Timonium today and they had 4 copies or so of Climb Maryland there.

Funny, poking around the net trying to see if I can find any residual info on Conrad's old Harpers Ferry Bouldering online guide, and I stumble upon this thread!

And man, I wish someone would have told me the Climb Maryland! guide was out of print! I thought my publisher still had around 1000 copies left. (granted, it's not being carried on Amazon at the choice of my pub, but you can still find it at REI and Earth Treks).

That said, I *am* trying to do a big update to the online guide (it may or may not get to 2nd Ed form, depending on Life and Whatnot - and no, diving isn't interfering with it ). Any bouldering information you may have gleaned over the years I'd love to hear about.

Unfortunately some of the areas in the online guide (and the book) look like they haven't been active for some time. I checked out the bouldering at Morgan Run (very near my home) and it doesn't look anyone has climbed there for a couple years. I'm going to try to re-establish that area this summer. I'd be happy to give you any information (despite how limited it may be) that I can.

That's okay, I'm not much of a climber. That being said, I'm up for anything. I envy you. One of the first Sunny days and I'm stuck working on my deck. Maybe next weekend I can get outside.
