looking for someone to show me where the hiking trail for huntington's ravine (mt. Washington, NH) goes up the ravine.

Hubby and I did this last weekend...and loved it. We look at the ravine (pictures or when driving by) and can't see where the trail goes up the ravine. I think its to the right of the "knob" that's in the middle.

Can anyone show a picture of the ravine...with this trail superimposed on it?

Leaves the stream a A (stream stays further left along the top of the rubble field before continuing up toward point C); takes a fairly direct line toward B (crosses the bottom of the bright gully (Yale Gully, I think - hard to recognize without snow and ice) and follows the faint shadow up to B), then takes the obvious ramp to C.

From the floor of the ravine, what looks like a high point on the rim (dead center in photo below) is the left side of Central Gully. The narrower bulge just left of that is the obviously steep rock of the Pinnacle. (In this photo you can guess the existence of Pinnacle Gully in the shadow of the Pinnacle, it's not always obvious.) The base of the Pinnacle is on the left side (climber's left) of the rubble field; trail starts on the right edge of the field and starts heading up relatively mild slopes, I think somewhere near the wet rocks on the right edge of the photo.

I did this a few years ago. My memory is that when you're facing the Fan (the big scree slope), the trail goes up the left side for a short distance. It then goes to the right across the bottom of the fan and ascends the right side. As you approach the top of the Fan, you encounter the stream coming down from Central Gully. You follow the stream for a bit and then break out to the left and continue ascending a short ways up Central Gully. Finally, at the very top of the Fan, you cross back over the stream and ascend the righthand slab. The way is marked with paint (yellow, I think).

Washburn map confirms mlandau3's memory: trail first approaches the bottom of the Fan (making a distinct left turn at 4125' to do so, as if aiming for the Pinnacle), veers right (at 4300') to skirt the Fan, then turns left about ninety degrees (due west) at 4425', coming more-or-less-inside Central Gully before bearing sharply right (north, then northeast) again (at 4850') (then zagging left to just west of North, 50' higher) to climb slabs between Central and Yale gullys, finally turning left (west by northwest) at 5100' to finish on the easy ramp that is the obvious shadow in the satellite view. Most of those zags aren't apparent on the USGS map.

We did the trail two weekends ago...it was something else and it was a PERFECT DAY with incredible views!!

The pictures and descriptions from all helped so that we could see what we did...when driving by (so we can "brag" to our friends..."hey, we were right...THERE!!")

Really? From the bottom of the first steep slab to the top of the last ramp is only 250 vertical feet? I was also there just a week ago, and this is really hard to believe - I thought it's more along the lines of 4-500 feet. But I could be wrong. Either way I'm very curious now...I'll try to find a Washburn map and figure it out myself.

OK, I just found it and it looks like my suspicions were justified. The trail does indeed begin ascending the slab right of Central Gully at 4850 feet, but the last steep ramp is more like 5,350 feet - about 100 feet lower than the point at which the trail intersects the Alpine Garden Trail.
