Easy ADK peak for early June - ideas, please!

I'm going to be taking the wife and baby to Lake Placid for a week in early June. She's not a big climber, but likes to be outside, so we're planning on a hike, a night camping out, and a peak.

I'll have the 18 month old in a backpack, so 2nd class hiking only. Being able to do it at a leisurely pace with only one night out would be ideal.

Marcy is the obvious one. But I've done it and she doesn't care, so if there's something less commonly traveled with some amazing views or just a great hike (shorter than Marcy is nice), that would be great. I've done Big Slide - something like that?

Hurricane mt, Giant Mt., Jay Mountain (lots of open viewing), Cascade mt., Gothics via pyrmid (harder hike, but very good veiws), Weston mt and the soda Range Or big and small crow's(little but excellent views, north of hurricane), Algonquin peak (2nd highest) and or wright peak, Blue mountian (western peak, firetower), Snowy Mt. (big fire tower peak just south of the high peaks, higher then 2 high peaks), Colden via the crossover trail from vanholvenberger trail, Rocky peak Ridge form new russia, Big slide mt via the brothers

just some ideas, if its the first outing, i would say go with cascade or something smaller, Jay Mt north of hurricane, at 3600 ft has a alpine summit via a fire, but provides about a mile and a half of open views, hurricane from keen is a good relatively easy hike, albeit very rocky and swampy in spots, open summit, one of the best veiws of any adk mts

Thanks! I've made very few trips into the high peaks, and there are so many accessible mountains I didn't even know where to start. I'll check out the SP pages on the ones you recommended.

Edit: Giant sounds like a right-sized adventure, with Cascade as a backup or a dayhike later in the week.

Rocky Peak Ridge fom the East, very good. This is an amazing hike with amazing views and a high campsite, it rocks!

Colden, Very good

these may be too commiting considering the length of travel, if so, i'd say cascade but there is no official camping there.

Maybe Giant then

these are my favorites based on your description, lat me know if yoy have any more questions.

I would say Algonquin would be the best one to take her on.There is ample camping at the Loj and the climb round trip isn't very difficult. She will get the best perspective of the High peaks from this, plus it has extraordinary veiws and an open summit. The Loj has a nice lake and good food after the climb.Rocky Peak is nice too,but it doesn't have the BANG that Algonquin does.Sure, there will be people there, but far les than say Cascade.Anywhere from Elk Lake would be nice too.Dix mountain is grand with outstanding veiws plus Elk Lake lodge is perfect for couples getaway.I,ve hiked 'em all and like something about each one of them.I brought my wife up Phelps. She opted for an easy one.If I were to take her camping,it would be in Flowed lands and I would most likely take her up Colden.I hope this somehow helps you...Jim Wallace

Their their in august, not supost to bit then though, Giant is good, steepish, but lots of viewing, climb from the washbowl, 3 miles up 4600 feet and some change for the total hight, about half that for the climb, all around good, cascade an good back up, consider Big slide via the brothers aswell, lots of veiws, 8 miles round trip, if its too hard, the 3rd brother makes the trip well worth it
