Hey all,
Going up for a quick 2 day trip in the ADK high peaks. Would like to nail 4 peaks at least. Taking two new guys with me so I suppose I will be nice and take them on some easy trails so I dont kill them on the first trip...

What are the current trail conditions like?
I am thinking ... cascade / porter....

and either giant / rocky...street / nye.... thoughts?

Eric

I'm not too sure on trails conditions, but have a heads-up on one of your pontential plans. I'm not sure if you've hiked street and nye before, but if you haven't it might not be the best to take "new guys" on. There are no views and it's a rough climb (in late July I did them and it was soaked, muddy, and tons of debris); I wouldn't want them to get a bad idea about the High Peaks b/c most peaks are far better. Just a suggestion, regardless, hope your trip goes great. Cheers

I completely disagree with that.. .haha. I have hiked it twice now.. once in the summer and once in the winter. I thought the view on street was one of the best views. I will agree that its a muddy trail though. I have eliminated that from the list however due to the creek being a river currently...

Big slide is my next thought.

I have done all the road side ones, but I am not about to take these guys out for the dix range or something more fun... they will kill me. lol

Well anyone who likes Street and Nye is good in my book b/c they must love the High Peaks haha. I totally forgot about Indian Brook too, it must be roaring right not with all the snow melt. But I know what you mean about not wanting them to kill you hahah, I did that to some of my friends.

For relatively current ADK trail conditions, your best info is likely gonna be here

or here

http://forums.adkhighpeaks.com (look in Adirondack Trip Reports)
