Ok. Sounds like a plan, though I'll pass on Grandpa.
I may stay at either Ark and Trail or Mountain Meadows Friday night and do something else Saturday morning. Mountain Meadows may already be fully booked. Probably the biggest ice climbing weekend of the season in Keene Valley.

All we really need is the reservations at this point. Do we need reservations for Phelps?
Loj Saturday 19th - I let my Adk membership lapse.

I believe Phelps is closed in the winter?

Ya, there is a great deal to do in Keene Valley (skiing, climbing, hiking, etc)
I'm hoping that SP'ers who come up to play that wknd, can all meet up for drinks, etc. Lake Placid has some decent places to meet for dinner or brunch.

Anyone dare to do the Bobsled with us?! ;-D

Anyway, I'm hoping we can get a group together for party Saturday night in Keene Valley or Lake Placid ~

btw, MountainFest is Jan 14-16

Both the Bobsled and Mountainfest are excellent! How much is the Bobsled up to now? When we did it, was $25 each.

So it's Loj night of 19th. I've been in it though never spent the night.

I'll probably opt for skiing at Whiteface though Ice Climbing could rule. Depends. I've seen crazy weather extremes there. My car froze twice. One weekend, Saturday, there were waterfalls, temperature dropped so precipitously, by Monday, the ice was in.

John, (and any others) if you want to stay at Loj, we're members. I can book rooms, if people want.

That would be great! Just one for me. My wife doesn't hike much. Esp not in winter. Bringing earplugs and eyeshade.

Sounds like a fun weekend. I'll most likely come and do come ice climbing too. (John you can tag along!) I'll either find a place to camp or just sleep in my car.

I finally got the dates set. My two friends and I will be going up and staying at Harvard cabin (if there's room left) and doing Central and Yale Gully. Hopefully a Mt. Washington ascent as well. We will also be doing some local Ice climbing, and maybe some snowshoeing around smaller peaks if the weather is bad. Were not planning what days were doing what because we won't know the weather and a summit is our main goal via central gully. Will be up there Dec. 30th- Jan 3rd. if anyone wants to meet up and maybe hang out or join up. let me know!

KristoriaBlack wrote:Hey Hotoven, Can I interest you in a midnight ascent of Mt. Washington on New Years Eve? Rain or shine or whiteout. I'm going to be in North Conway last week of December and the first week of January. I have my weekends and evenings off. If you want to do some evening climbs by headlamp let me know.

Sounds like fun although I'm leery of climbing at night in bad conditions. I don't have tons of experience on that particular Mountain and would not feel confident doing it in a whiteout. I would love doing it on a clear night though.

There is camping available right next to the Loj, and it's open all winter. And quarter showers at the visitors center.

The showers are great!
As someone said before there is a group size limit in the high peaks and bear canisters are required if your camping, Marcy should really be done in one long day from the loj doable even in the winter the track is usually hard from all the snowshoes at that point.

News: Loj is fully booked - apparently a year ago.

I'm sure we will not need a bear canister in the winter. ;-)

So I just got back from a fun weekend in the Whites. I stayed next to Harvard Cabin for 3 nights and did some gully's in Huntington Ravine along with a Mt. Washington summit on new years eve while watching the sunset on top. very fun! Super warm weekend, now I'm ready for some cold nights in the NY!

Is anyone still up for this?

I got "permission from the boss" to take Feb 18th off. So, we've still got it on our calendar.

Let me know! :-) It would be great to meet some sp'ers!!!!

President's Day weekend looks like my best chance to get to the Daks this winter. Was there a plan?
