Question on Katahdin Day Use Parking

It is a little early in the am to call the park so was wondering if anyone was online and had any additional information on day use parking at Katahdin. I have a business trip in the area and have 1 day (non-flexible) where I would be in the park (June 4th.) I tried to make a reservation last week for either the Abol or Katahdin Stream Campgrounds for my selected dates but since I am out of state I can't reserve anything more than 2 weeks out. So I went in this morning and there are no spots available. So, my question is, "Are there any more non-reserved day use spots available for these campgrounds or do I now just have to either call the day before or arrive when the gates open and hope someone doesn't show up?" Or, am I just out of luck? I will try to call the park when I get out of meetings today but if anyone had advice in the meantime, I'd appreciate it! As a note - I did see that they don't anticipate opening some of the trailheads until potentially after Memorial Day so that may be complicating things, as well ...
Thanks!

Punchline, I expect it is because they haven't yet opened up the mountain for the summer season. Or use is so sparse in the early season due to the black flies that the reservations aren't necessary :-) I'm sure a call to the park office will straighten it out. Enjoy your hike! Abol is the quickest route to the top and a fun scramble!

Tons of spots available. Make sure you click the "Go" button after selecting your desired date.

Thanks All - I did get a hold of the park yesterday and the ranger indicated that the reason that there are no available Day Use Permits on the day I need (June 4th) is because right now they do not believe the trails will be open by then due to the snowpack and melt off. She did recomment looking at their Facebook page daily for updated on the trail conditions, which I will do next week. Oh well - you know what they say about the best laid plans ... maybe next business trip I can sneak up there!
