Michigan and Minnesota are decent.

Missouri, Ohio, and Iowa suck.

Indiana's is pretty lame too, although the road to get there is a lot of fun. It's like a mini-roller coaster!

Why do you hate the Midwest?

If you count South Dakota as part of the flatlands, then it has the best hightpoint.

I liked Iowa! The views were very expansive, and the keychains were cool. Also the entries from the logbook were touching...

Why do you hate America?

I love the Midwest. While Easterners mostly stay in the East and Westerners almost never venture out of their region, we flatlanders go to mountains all over the country. We get to go to both sides (and to the hills up in the UP and Minnesota).

Eagle Mountain in MN is pretty cool.
There are a few other peaks on the north shore that are good too.
Some good climbing too, come on up!

I agree that the actual Missouri highpoint is anti-climatic with the drive up and the ADA paved trail to the highest spot.

However, the loop trail to Mina Sauk Falls from the same TH is quite enjoyable - particularly during fall colors. A long backpack from the parking lot west through Johnson Shut-Ins and on to the Bell Mountain TH is a nice multi-day trip - I'd do it in fall colors. The summit of Bell Mountain is great for an overnight backpack with great star gazing.

I was born and spent my first 30 years in Indiana... so I have the right to hate it :-)

Never did make it to the high point though. Ohio sucked. Iowa was ok... I still have a keychain from the highpoint.

Mt. Arvon might not be the most exciting but it can be combined with a TON of awesome scenery in the upper peninsula of MI. The whole Lake Superior region is incredibly scenic though (rivaling many areas of the country) so I would also recommend a trip to Eagle Mt., MN. I also loved the Taum Sauk Mt. area. The highpoint itself isn't great but the hike down to Mina Sauk Falls is well worth a visit (or hike over to Johnsons shut ins)

Y'know they're all pleasant but not impressive. Certainly SD is very nice if you count that, but i don't think you do. Probably IN is the least attractive.

Why do you want to know???

By far the best mid-west high point is Charles Mound in Illinois. Incredible hike up insanely steep and exposed terrain. Actually it is a 20 minute walk along a road to the top of a small hill and it's only officially open 4 weekends each year. Still had fun going there this year though.
