OK, trying to get to SD and ND, but flights into RAP (Rapid City) are like $1300 pp.
What are other cheaper alternatives with a drive? Denver looks like 6 hr drive, Minneapolis looks like 10 hours, which is a bit much.
Would prefer Delta, United or Southwest...
Thanks!

By your profile it looks like you would be coming from the east coast. You could look at flying to Fargo/Grand Rapids. Minneapolis is a Delta hub so connecting flights between Fargo and Minneapolis are common. I'm not sure where the high points are in each state but I would think they are on the West side. You're still talking about a long drive. What about Montana?

will try that. So far it looks like Denver $478 with a 6 hr drive, or Minneapolis $318 with a 10 hr drive.
Bismarck may be the answer.

There's better mountains to climb within 6 hrs of Denver, no?

How about Billings? That's the nearest city on the Montana side, and both highpoints are close to the border.

If you still need Panorama Point in Nebraska try Denver or Cheyenne, WY and it's on your way'ish to the Black Hills.

Looks like to me Boston to Rapid City is actually $460-480 RT (depending on dates) on United, Delta and American (one stop in either Chicago or Denver) through Orbitz.com. :?:

It's only $425 RT on united.com

Are you flying last minute or something?

Where did you see $1300?

This probably won't help you much, but I'm flying to Denver in early August to do the NE, SD, and ND highpoints, and I got a direct flight from Indianapolis to Denver for $220 roundtrip. I was watching flights for quite a while before I booked, like 3-4 months, and at one point, they were around $170, just not on the dates I wanted. Try looking for Tuesday flights, I think flights are cheaper around Tuesdays. I go to www.kayak.com and love the site when looking for flights. You can have it search 3 days before and after your dates to see if other flights may be cheaper.

Just did the Orbitz search, prices are $828 from BOS> RAP, $871 BDL>RAP

So I booked into Bismarck, $428, close to home airport, free parking. I had a $300 voucher for Delta.

AlpineJason- agreeance, but working a $#%@#$ list...and will visit Sturgis Bike Week while I'm there.

Arthur Digbee- Delta into Montana is >$741...

JeffH25- been to Panorama Point...loved herding the buffaloes with my rental car!
One of my favorite highpoints.

THANKS AGAIN EVERYBODY!!!
