Hey all,

Was wondering if anybody in the good ol' midwest had a great summer on the rock? any great climbs you accomplished this year. Anybody preparing, ie getting in shape, for and endeavors for next year? Or this winter?

I led my first 5.10 at Barn Bluff this year, and got a lot of outdoor climbing in. I know 5.10 isnt a grade to be in awe of but Im happy to see my climbing keep improving. Im currently preparing myself for next june. Im taking off a couple weeks and heading out to the WA cascades and take my mom out again. Her goal is Mt St Helens, she has turned back twice, once due to lack of fitness and the other for conditions. and than following that up with Mt Adams, and if all goes well head to Idaho on the way home, depending on time, and take a shot at Borah Peak.

Im trying to get us "midwest folks" a bit more active on SP and show the climbing community us "lowlanders" have some fun too

Did some fun stuff this summer. My son Evan and I went to Yosemite in early June. There was several feet of snow in the Tuolomne Meadows area (the road was just opened the day we arrived). Hiked snowy trails and climbed Fairview dome, Illouette Ridge, and snowy Sonora peak. Also did some valley scrambling (Sierra Point and the east side of Yosemite falls).

In July my wife and I celebrated 25 years and went to Olympic national Park, vancouver Island and the Mt. Baker area. Their was lots of snow there too! I had to snowshoe on 18 FEET of snow to get to modest Huntoon Point. My first time on snowshoes.

At least in the midwest, snow stays home in the summer.

A belated congrats on your milestone anniversary!

I've been focused on finishing the state highpoints and didn't do much technical climbing in 2011. I was able to hit 10 states HPs though.

I wanted to climb Mt Elbrus in July 2011. I had the plane ticket and everything was planned but the region was closed to toursists because of "unrest". We rebooked the trip for May 2012. Fingers crossed that things remain calm over there.

I'm supposed to co-host a winter outing with the CMC at Devil's Lake the end of January to teach basic winter camping/survival skills but that is looking doubtful with the crazy weather we're having. It'll be tough to teach any winter skills with no snow and 50 degree temps...!
