my bags live under my bead, all stretched out and happy, while not in use. I've ha done since '73 and it's still got what it takes to keep me happy up high. Yeah, don't compress your down.

I keep my down stuff (for now just one 15-deg sleeping bag and a jacket) in a rubbermaid container. It's a little more volume than the cotton bag that came with my Marmot sleeping bag and it's fairly mouse proof. Never have had problems with mice, but I don't want to run the chance.

When I prepare for a trip, I take them out and hang the jacket up and hang the sleeping bag upside down for a couple days. It helps to loft things up. I do the same for a few days after I get back from a trip.

Good points, but the reason I bumped this circa 2007 thread was the find out if the extreme heat and cold would have a bad result on my sleeping bags storage.

Sorry man. I just realized this was an old thread. But if it were my down gear, no way I'd put it in an attic. Not to mention extreme heat and cold, but they can get pretty humid if you don't have good ventilation.

Here is a decent article regarding care from Prolite.

I don't know how hot a dryer gets, but my attic has hit 140F easily.

It doesn't usuall really "damage" high quality down - it just takes very long time to get the loft back. If you pulled it out in your tent tonight, it would be very flat and cold.

Put it in a dryer on "no heat" and let it ride for 45-60 minutes. It should come back nicely.

Ok thanks a lot. That's what I wanted!
