a Question about BOOTS

so I am ready for some new boots. I am moving to Asheville, NC and will be hiking, camping, rock climbing, winter hiking, ice climbing(if I can find the southern ice), so I need to get a good new set of boots since my old pair are shot.

I used to have a pair of Vasque Sundowners that were comfy and durable. I am considering the Limmer Standard too.

So does anyone have any advice or suggestions on my next set of footwear?

My summer boots = Asolo Attivas

My winter boots = Scarpa Summit GTX

Granted, the above links reference women's boots, but they should have men's versions of the same.

Have fun!

Sarah

For me that would be at least five sets of boots. Actually more since I have to have at least four pairs of rock climbing shoes at all times...

I agree with Kris, many varied activities call for varied footwear. But I also agree with Connollyck, if I could only take one pair of boots, I'd take the La Sportivas. I've hiked climbed and cramponed many long days, very comfortably in my La Sportivas.

i LOVE those sportivas. i have a pair of plastic koflachs and they barely get used anymore. Unless I'm going to be on snow/ice the whole time with NO rock, then I will bust out the doubles, but overall those sportivas are awesome! i highly reccomend them. i got them for 365 at explore64 on sale if youre bargain hunting--cheapest i could find (not sure if theyre still on sale)

I've backpacked from Alaska to Grand Canyon, toproped to 5.9 rock, lead moderate ice and did many years of winter hiking (with thick socks) in NH in these boots:

IMHO, these boots come pretty close to a-one-boot-do-it-all. $140 price isn't too bad either, eh?

I recommend the Scarpa Charmoz: http://www.rei.com/product/748422?cm_mm ... erralID=NA

And the La Sportiva Trango:

They fit about the same, but the Scarpa has a little more room in the toe box. I have used these for ice climbing, general mountaineering and they are my day hikers too. Very versatile.

If the OP is considering either they might also look at the Triolet, which I have found to be a bit more durable. I personally wouldn't do a whole lot of winter stuff in them, but I have cold toes with previous frostbite episodes. YMMV

Really hard to generalize boots cuz feet vary so much but I'm totally digging my Lowas:

Super comfy, light, waterproof, warm & won't fall apart after one season.
