How about nylon shorts for someone with a size "small" waist? I can't find anything with a zipper-fly for less than a medium waist. I used to buy Land's End water shorts, but now they come only in fat sizes, or without front zippers. I've taken to buying size small zip-offs, and just wearing the shorts, but the padded zippers rub all the hair off my quads.

I'm 5'6", 31" waist, 42" chest. Nothing fits. This used to be a fairly normal size.

I had a lot of trouble finding softshell pants in my size (28 waist, 34 inseam). I finally got a good deal on some Patagonias that fit me.

I wore them once.

I know this sounds odd, but oftentimes discount stores will have clothing that will fit (and cheap too!) because it doesn't fit other people as well.

I've tried Billabong stuff, but I have a hard time with shorts that go below my knees.

That's the real challenge, and it has the original post beat: Trying to find clothes that make sense, instead of these ridiculous things that conform to some supposed "latest fashion."

for pants try Patagonia. I have a 28" waist and a 34" inseam (5'11" and 148lbs) and they see to fit me right. For rocking climbing I use both some BD Rock Pants, and the Patagonia Rock Guide pants since they are both Scholler cloth).

For jackets and stuff try arcteryx which has a tapered athletic cut

NOW would anyone tell me where to by jeans nowadays.

oh yes.... and Nutella is truely the spice of life.

Mammut used to have the best selection for pants but you may have to order them.

Ohhh! I think I have all you skinny folks beat, 5 11' 140lbs. I get away with small shirts.

super model wannabe......That is what I weighed when I was living and climbing in Japan (actually I had to eat a ton of chocolate on top of the traditional japanese diet to stay above 138lbs).

I've been as low as 5'9" 128 lbs after a month on the CO trail when I was 19. That was disgusting. I had normally weighed around 140 at that point in my life.

I order Gap online to get them to fit me (30x34).

I agree that most slim fit Patagonia stuff works - I'm 6', 150-160 depending on season and current workout strategy. My R2 jacket is perfect for a tall person with small waist.

I was 135lb my freshman year of college. That was skinny to the point of being gross - I worked night shift and it killed my apetite.

Look to the european companies.

Eider (France) makes very trim climbing/skiing clothing. The fit is what would keep them from becoming a real presence in north america.

Mammut (Swiss) would be another good one. Norrona (Norway) is now available from backcountry.com

Chuck, "real" cowboys are still skinny in general...only place to get 28"-34/36" jeans and the like are at feed stores. When Stacy buys feed at a store called IFA, should be in AZ as well, she picks me up jeans from time to time. Brand is Cinch. I always wore Levis...but these fit great. I sport climb in them all the time. Glad I could be of service. If you need a scarf for the wife, let me know.
