i'm interested in the casio pathfinder Multi-Band Solar Atomic Watch #PAW1300-1V for climbing/mountaineering trips outside the U.S.

does the atomic time keeping work reliably in countries within south america/africa/middle east/asia? i understand that there are atomic time keeping points in the U.S., U.K., and Japan but, wanted to hear from those that have experience w/ this watch outside the U.S. any help or info. would be much appreciated. thank you.

To what purpose? Since when is the exact time important in any mountain climbing endeavor? For me it has always been an escape from time and back to nature. Unleash yourself from the clock!

The watch is just a quartz watch that periodically adjusts itself based on an atomic clock. A quartz watch should have an error of about a few seconds per month. Unless you are going to be away for months at a time and/or need to keep absolute time to within less than a minute, there is no reason to get this watch.

hermit & khee--wish i could live the nomad lifestyle like ya'all but, i still need a watch on my intl. trips to atleast tell me when to get back on that plane back to civilization, wake me up in the middle of the night to start climbing, and oh those other things like the ABC features are nice things to have as well besides looking all hipster w/ thing we call a timepiece on my wrist!

longpok--thanks so much for your feedback about the temperature affecting the altitude readings on the casio pathfinder models vs. the similar sunnto models. i've owned previously the high gear and silva abc watches and yes they both aren't accurate this exact numbers either but, what is? so i already know going into it and like someone else mentioned its better than nothing in my opinion.

would be cool to hear back from those that actually own these casio pathfinder abc watches as i would love to hear back on how they perform and of course does it become a problem of receiving the time via the atomic clock stations from various parts in the world while up in the mtns. or in remote areas, etc.? also looking into the sunnto vector but, do ya'all have short battery life problems w/ the watch?? mucho gracias!
