I'm looking into suitable tents for single capacity that will cater for winter conditions.
I'd be very grateful for any recommendations.

Cheers,

Antony

I think they sell these in one man size, but that's what I use.

What do you plan on using the tent for?

I had the Mountain Hardwear Bunker 1 tent for a while, pretty good tent, although if you are not short I could imagine it being rather difficult to fit in there. I'm 5'7 170 and had some difficulties in it. Upgrade to a super lightweight 2-man, 4-season tent like the iTent or Sierra Designs Covert-2 tent...both are very light (4 lbs or so at bare bones setup) and would give you more room!

Hope this helped.

I like my Hilleberg Akdo

The quality is great and the tent is very diverse as is my Nallo 2 gt

For climbing?

Camping?

For camping, I' would take a sylnylon fabric pyramid tent. (Black Diamond sells them, so do many other companies.)

For climbing, a single wall mountain tent such as the Bibler I tent, Integral Designs, or Wild Country models.

I've been pleased with my Integral Designs Mega Sola.
Sheds snow very well, and it is light(~4 lbs).
Quick set-up, also.

I'm happy with my Mountain Hardwear EV direct 2 - light, easy setup, very sturdy, lot of space if you are alone. Condensation might be a problem if you stay in cold and wet conditions. It's a perfect tent for high altitude!

Hillberg Akto. Light, sturdy. I used mine a lot, and up to over 6000m in the Pamirs, guess that qualifies as 4th season. The large vestibule makes it easy to keep snow out of your tents. The Soulo is sturdier, but not sure if you will really need it.
It may be heavier than single walls, but bear in mind that a double wall tent is warmer, and you can get away with a lighter sleeping bag. Less condensation means less wetness on your sleeping bag, too. The tarp-solutions work, but are not that much lighter, as you need warmer bags (for the same comfort level, that is).

Might I recommend:

The Megamid/Bivy Sack combo (lethally light)

The Firstlight:

I'm inclined to say that if you're going it alone, you gotta be concerned about weight and these boys will make you a feather in the backcountry while providing bomber shelter.

I've had friends rave about the Integraldesign's MK 1, Light, packable.
Couple issues though:
Warm in the summer because there's not enough ventilation, use a bivy + tarp in the summer.
The netting is on the outside of the door, so it gets wet and collects snow.
Forget it if you're 6ft+, a long sleeping bag won't fit flat.

Anyone try the wedge bivy yet?
