Omega Pacific D Solidgate carabiner. I'm sure there's a use for it, but I haven't found it. I'd rather rack on an oval. Not a locker. Ideas?

La Sportiva Nepal Extremes. Thought I would need them for the Cascades in winter. Found out that I liked climbing better in AT boots even if I am not skiing...

Oh well, at least I got them at the used boot rack at Next Adventure. Brand new, with tags, $150.

Thanks to the marketing geniuses at Malden Mills and WL Gore, we (and I) have spent the GDP of most small countries on GTX gear that could easily have been substituted with Hefty Trash Bags.

Since all that crap is made in China anyway, I could have spent $6 on a cheapo Wal-Mart windbreaker and an additional $4 on a decent plastic poncho that could have kept me just as comfortable as any $420 GTX POS. Though, not as sexy. (That remaining $410 could have gone towards a nice Hugo Boss suit.... way sexier, even on the mountain.)

I hope that the collective experience of SP exposes the "breathable" outdoor fabric scam for what it is.

trango alpine equalizer, ANY titanium ice screw, any cheap camming device, and the coup de grace any Ron Brunkhorst montana ice or alpine guidebook. Crap info and poor beta. Better of without.

Hmmm, a recent Ipod Touch that I thought I'd use, turns out, havn't even opened the package yet nor do I want to.

Anyone want a brand new unopened 8gb ipod touch for say $125 shipped?

MSR Miox water filter. Total piece of crap. The batteries (unique ones of course) run out in minutes even when you store them out of the unit. I had to purify 4-5x as much as indicated to get clean water. Too expensive when you consider the battery cost, test paper cost, and the salt crystal cost (all MSR unique products, even the batteries).

MSR MIOX = wasting 40 minutes trying to purify water, giving up, and then just boiling. Worst gear I've ever bought.

You'll hate it even more when you realize that the MiOx is just designed to electrolyse salt in water to make sodium hypochlorite (aka Bleach) which then kills the bacteria for you.

MSR also makes a bottle of "Sweetwater Purifier" for $10 which is simply concentrated bleach that you add a couple drops to your bottle to accomplish the same thing as the MiOx, without batteries or complication.
