I would like to start a discussion here about ultra light climbing gear and maybe later create a section on the Summitpost Gear.

The purpose is to identify the lightest gear on the market that perform also extremely well.

I will start with a few items which in my experience are in this category:

Rock gear:

Wild Country Super light rock nuts

DMM Phantom Screwgate carabiner

BD Vaporlock Screwgate carabiner

Mammut Moses wiregate carabiners

Mammut 13/" Dyneema sling

Ice Tools:

Grivel Quantum Light

Clothing:

Wild Things Super light Alpinist Jacket

Wild Things Super light Alpinist Pants

Packs:

Wild Things Ice Sac

Thoughs?

Before you start scrimping on grams and ounces on your rack look in the mirror and see if you need to cut weight where it counts.

I was not talking about you personally.

My comment was referring that most ultra light climbing gear sucks compared
to what it is trying to replace. Carrying dyneema slings for weight savings over
nylon runners on a multi pitch climb seems like overkill or having a light jacket
rip open on a tree branch while skiing is not worth the trouble. Although light ropes
and biners can add up and keeping those items light does make a difference.

I’m just bitter because I break light gear and have tended to err on the item just
one up from the lightest, hoping for a little more durability.

In regards to runners, the BD 10mm dyneema runners are simply great! I use them for everything, incredibly strong and very abrasion resistant when in those un-ideal situations where edges can cut up ropes/runners.

It always cracks me up to see dudes spending $8,000 on a bike to shave ounces when they have 20 lbs or more around their waist.

I much prefer the WC Neon- a gram or two heavier, but it's a keylock.

BD OZ shave big weight.

Foam helmet (I have a Tracer).

Metolius nuts and TCUs. A TCU weighs less than a similar sized nut!!

Tricams

ultra-light windshirts and shells - Pata M10 and Houdini.

Western Mountaineering

But the biggest thing:

leaving stuff home. Do more with less.

+1 , Definetly do more with less, and I'm recently a convert to the BD Oz, fantastic little thing it is! For a locker, i'll vouch for the vapourlock, I own 5 of them, and they've all seen heavy use for various things (not all climbing related) and they're still going.
